How the booking flow actually works
You tell ChatGPT where and when you'd like to eat, your party size, and any preferences, such as cuisine, budget, dietary needs, or atmosphere. It shows you available reservation times right in the chat response. Picking a time opens the booking flow through whichever partner covers that restaurant, and you confirm the reservation without leaving the thread.

Coverage depends on which partner your local restaurants use, since the three services don't cover the same regions:
- OpenTable: available globally.
- Resy: US only.
- Yelp: covers the US and Canada for reservations and waitlists.
In practice, that means users outside the US and Canada will mostly see OpenTable-powered restaurants show up in ChatGPT, while US and Canadian users get the widest coverage across all three.
What it can't do yet
The feature is one-directional for now, great for booking but not for managing. You can reserve a table or join a waitlist through ChatGPT, but if you need to change the time or cancel, you'll have to do that directly on OpenTable's, Resy's, or Yelp's own app or website, not through the chat.

A typical request might be: "Table for four on Saturday around 8pm, vegetarian-friendly, not too loud." ChatGPT then lists times that match, and you pick one to continue in the partner's booking step. The more specific you are about party size, time window and dietary needs, the fewer follow-up questions you will get.
What to check before you confirm
Read the booking details on the confirmation step: date, time, party size and any deposit or cancellation terms set by the restaurant or partner. Because changes and cancellations happen on the partner's own app, make sure you have an account with that partner, or at least access to the confirmation email, so you can manage the booking later.
Where it may fall short
Results depend on which restaurants use OpenTable, Resy or Yelp in your area, so smaller or independent places that take bookings by phone will not appear. Outside the US and Canada you will mostly see OpenTable venues, which can mean a shorter list. For those restaurants, a direct call or the restaurant's own site is still the reliable route.
