Siri AI Adds Five New Languages in iOS 27.2: What Changes

Apple's AI-powered Siri now speaks French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish as well as English, following the release of iOS 27.2 on October 26, 2026. We explain which iPhones qualify, where Siri AI is still missing, the other Siri changes in the update, and whether switching languages is worth it.

⚡ Quick facts

  • Released: iOS 27.2 shipped on October 26, 2026, after a beta that began September 16
  • New languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, alongside English
  • iPhones: Siri AI needs an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 or later
  • Not yet: still unavailable in the EU and mainland China
  • Also new: Siri recalls past conversations, an Excluded Apps setting, and SynthID watermark support in Photos

What iOS 27.2 changes for Siri

Apple released iOS 27.2 on Monday, October 26, 2026. Its release notes say simply that “Siri AI is available in more languages”, and MacRumors lists them: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, on top of English. The languages first appeared in the iOS 27.2 beta on September 16, as 9to5Mac reported at the time. Some coverage says Apple still labels the new languages as beta, so expect rough edges, especially with mixed-language requests.

Which iPhones get it

iOS 27.2 installs on every iPhone that runs iOS 27, but Siri AI itself needs an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 or later. On older models the update installs normally and Siri keeps working the old way. If you have a supported phone, the new language appears once you set Siri's language (and usually the device language) to one of the five.

Where it is still missing

Siri AI remains unavailable in the European Union and mainland China. In June Apple said in its Newsroom statement that the Digital Markets Act was the reason for the EU delay, and iOS 27.2 does not change that. EU users instead get an expanded App Tracking Transparency prompt in this release.

Our take: should you switch Siri's language?

If you already speak to Siri in English, switching is not automatic and not always worth it. A quick way to decide:
