Pocket FM Hits $500M Run Rate as AI Powers 93% of Its Audio, Explained
Updated October 30, 2026. Audio-series platform Pocket FM told TechCrunch in September 2026 that its annualised revenue run rate has reached $500 million, roughly double a year earlier, and that AI now produces 93% of its catalog and 99% of new content. The Bengaluru-founded company earns most of that money in the US. Here is how its AI production works, where the revenue comes from, and why a run rate is not the same as audited revenue.
โก Quick facts
- Run rate: $500 million, up from about $430 million in April and about $250 million a year earlier
- AI share: 93% of the catalog and 99% of new content, with humans setting ideas and story direction
- Revenue mix: about $415 million from paid episodes and $85 million from ads
- Biggest market: the US, about 70% of the run rate; 250 million+ listeners in 20+ countries
- Funding talks: reported talks to raise $100โ120 million at about a $2 billion valuation
What Pocket FM announced
In an interview with TechCrunch published on September 10, 2026, Pocket FM said its annualised revenue run rate had reached $500 million, up from about $430 million in April and about $250 million a year earlier. A run rate multiplies recent monthly revenue by twelve, so it shows momentum but is not audited annual revenue. Pocket FM says it is profitable and cash-flow positive on an adjusted basis, without giving figures.
How AI makes most of the catalog
Pocket FM sells long serialised audio dramas, often hundreds of episodes each, unlocked episode by episode. The company says AI now produces 93% of its catalog and 99% of new content. People still supply the ideas, plots and direction, while AI tools handle much of the writing, voicing and production. Pocket FM says this is about 80 times cheaper than its old process and lets it make 100 hours of content in a day. It reports more than 550,000 creators, 2.5 million hours of content a year and over 770,000 series. AI work is led by Vasu Sharma.
The company also says listener retention rose to 76% from 44%, that 96 titles have earned over $1 million and 13 over $10 million. Its US-only app Pocket Saga, which is fully AI-produced, is said to be at about a $15 million run rate. TechJuice carried the same figures.
Where the money comes from
About $415 million of the run rate comes from paid episodes and about $85 million from advertising. The US accounts for around 70% of revenue and grew about 70% over the year, which makes Pocket FM a US-revenue business that happens to be headquartered in India. It reaches more than 250 million listeners in over 20 countries.
Funding and IPO plans
Reports say Pocket FM is in talks to raise $100โ120 million at about a $2 billion valuation; its CEO did not deny them to TechCrunch. The company said it has no plans to go public within the next 24 months. AI-generated media is also reshaping music, as our Universal Music and ElevenLabs explainer shows.
Our take: what the numbers mean
- A run rate is a snapshot. It can rise or fall quickly in a subscription-like business; audited annual revenue would tell more.
- AI is the cost story, not the demand story. Cheaper production lets Pocket FM test far more series, but listeners still choose based on stories that hold attention.
- Quality and labelling are open questions. As more content is machine-made, platforms face pressure to tell listeners when voices and scripts are AI-generated.
- Creators' share is worth watching. If AI does most of the work, how revenue is split with human creators will shape the platform's supply.
