What AI Mode actually does
Instead of a normal list of blue links, AI Mode lets you ask a longer, more complex, or layered question, the kind that would normally take three or four separate Google searches to piece together, and get a single, organized answer built on a custom version of Gemini. Google has shipped a steady stream of Gemini updates lately, including a new Gemini 3.8 Flash model.
Now in 10 Indian languages
AI Mode started with English and Hindi, then expanded to Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, a significant step given how much of India searches in a regional language rather than English day to day.
Search Live: talk and point your camera
Search Live adds real-time, spoken back-and-forth: you talk to Google and can point your phone camera at something, like a product, a signboard, or a plant, to get an instant spoken answer. India got this in both English and Hindi, ahead of most other countries outside the US.
How to get better answers
AI Mode works best with a full question rather than a few keywords. Ask in the language you think in, add the details that matter (budget, place, timeframe) and use follow-up questions to narrow the answer instead of starting a new search. In Hindi or any of the other supported languages you can also mix in English words if that is how you naturally speak.
When to still check the sources
An AI-written summary can be wrong or out of date, especially for prices, medical or legal questions, and breaking news. Use the web links shown with the answer to confirm anything important before acting on it.
AI Mode vs classic search
Classic results are still the better tool when you want a specific site, a quick fact or a list of options to compare yourself. AI Mode is better for multi-part questions that would otherwise take several searches. Search Live adds a hands-free option when typing is awkward.
Part of a wider push on Indian languages
Google is not alone: Sarvam AI built open models for all 22 scheduled Indian languages, and NotebookLM now supports Hindi and Tamil. On phones, see Google's September Android Feature Drop.
