Claude Docs & Slides Explained: Anthropic's New AI Workspace
Anthropic has added Claude Docs and Claude Slides to Claude, so you can write a document or build a presentation inside a conversation, and it folded Claude Cowork into the main chat at the same time. We explain what each one does, who can use them, and a workflow that gets a useful deck out of them.
⚡ Quick facts
- Launched: September 16, 2026, in beta, alongside merging Claude Cowork into the main Claude chat
- Docs: write and edit a document together with Claude inside a conversation
- Slides: Claude drafts a deck you can edit directly, present from Claude, or download as PowerPoint or PDF
- Sharing: each doc or deck gets one shareable link that also opens on mobile
- Plans: out of beta on every Claude plan, including Free, since October 8, 2026; usage counts against your normal limits
What are Claude Docs and Claude Slides?
On September 16, 2026, Anthropic made two changes at once. It merged Claude Cowork, its mode for longer, multi-step tasks, into the regular Claude chat, and it added two new things Claude can make inside a conversation: Claude Docs and Claude Slides. In Anthropic's announcement, Docs is described simply: ask for a document, and you and Claude write it together.
Slides works the same way for presentations. Claude drafts the deck from your request; you can then edit slides directly, present from inside Claude, or download the deck as a PowerPoint or PDF file. Anything made with Docs, Slides or Claude Design gets a single shareable link that also opens on a phone.
What happened to Claude Cowork?
Cowork did not disappear; it stopped being a separate place. Before the change, chat, Cowork and Claude Design lived in different parts of the app. Now Claude decides whether a request needs a normal reply, a longer task, or a document or visual, and Let's Data Science notes that existing Cowork chats, projects, artifacts, connectors and skills all carried over.
How the two work together
The most useful detail in the launch is that Docs and Slides made in the same conversation stay consistent with each other. Ask for a report, then ask for slides, and the deck is built from the report rather than from scratch, so figures and headings match. That is the main practical difference from pasting text into a separate slide tool.
Who can use it, and what it costs
At launch, Docs and Slides were in beta on paid plans, rolling out to Pro and Max first over several weeks, with Team and Free to follow. On October 8, 2026, Anthropic took Docs, Slides and Design out of beta on every Claude plan, including Free, and launched two more betas: Dashboards on paid plans and Motion on Team and Enterprise. Unite.AI reported that Enterprise organisations get the three tools switched on by default from October 15, 2026.
There is no separate price. Building and editing a doc or deck uses your normal Claude usage limits, which matters if you iterate a lot on the Free or Pro plan.
Our take: a report-to-deck workflow that holds up
AI decks fail in a predictable way: they look tidy and say little. As Christopher Alarcon put it, a tool like this raises the floor but does nothing for the ceiling. Here is the workflow we would use for a monthly update, so the substance comes first and the slides follow:
- Start with the doc, not the deck. Paste or attach your numbers and ask for a one-page report: what changed, why, and what you need from the reader.
- Fix the report before any slides exist. Correct figures and cut weak points now; every error you leave will be copied into the deck.
- Then ask for slides from that report, with a limit: “six slides, one message per slide, no more than 25 words each.”
- Edit directly, not by prompting. For a wording or number fix, clicking into the slide is faster than describing the change.
- Export to PowerPoint only at the end, if your company template or a colleague needs it; after export, the AI and the source report are no longer linked.
When to stay in PowerPoint or Google Slides instead: decks built on a strict brand template, decks several people edit at once, and anything where pixel-level layout matters. Claude Slides is best as the fast first draft.

Frequently asked questions
What is Claude Docs?
Claude Docs lets you write and edit a document together with Claude inside a normal conversation. Anthropic launched it on September 16, 2026, and took it out of beta on October 8, 2026.
What does Claude Slides do?
Claude drafts a presentation from your request. You can edit slides directly, present from inside Claude, or download the deck as a PowerPoint or PDF file.
What happened to Claude Cowork?
Cowork was merged into the main Claude chat on September 16, 2026. Claude now decides whether a request needs a reply, a longer task or a document, and existing Cowork chats, projects, connectors and skills carried over.
Are Claude Docs and Slides free?
Yes. Since October 8, 2026 they are available on every Claude plan, including Free. There is no separate fee, but making and editing docs and decks counts against your normal usage limits.
Can I share a Claude doc or deck?
Yes. Anything made with Docs, Slides or Claude Design gets a single shareable link that also opens on mobile, and decks can be downloaded as PowerPoint or PDF.
Should I use Claude Slides instead of PowerPoint?
Use it for fast first drafts, especially when the deck comes from a report you already wrote with Claude. For strict brand templates, decks several people edit at once, or exact layouts, export and finish in PowerPoint or Google Slides.
